No Description Call  for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026

University of Genoa, UNIGE, located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026. Our University has been beneficiary of several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.

The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of funding scheme of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersect oral exchanges.

MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2- or 3-years duration.

Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development.

The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCAected candidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposal, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of Uni Ge, National Contact Point and other experts.

The masterclass will take place in May 2026.MSCA domain:

Research Project Description Current extended reality systems offer a rich experience, allowing users to immerse themselves in digital worlds. However, some perceptual issues hamper the prolonged use of such systems and their effective application in both training activities and entertainment sessions. For instance, vergence–accommodation conflict, sensory latency, and cue inconsistencies can lead to adverse effects, including cybersickness, reduced realism and presence, impaired depth perception, distorted embodiment, and cognitive fatigue.

Indeed, several open research challenges can be addressed to solve or mitigate such perceptual issues.

The following provides some examples of potential topics of interest.
3D Vision: vergence–accommodation conflict; depth cue weighting (e.g., stereo, motion parallax, shading, occlusion); perception of scale.

Avatar Representation: embodiment; agency and motor prediction (e.g., effects of latency and predictive rendering); social presence.

Perceptual Limits: foveated rendering (e.g., perceptual thresholds and gaze-contingent rendering); high dynamic range and color perception (e.g., dynamic range and realism, color calibration and perceptual consistency); learning (e.g., effects on attention and cognitive load, transferability to real-world).Multisensory Integration: visual–vestibular conflict (e.g., cybersickness and personalized motion rendering); visuo–haptic integration (e.g., effects of fidelity, latency, passive haptics). The mission of the Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics, and Systems Engineering is to promote and facilitate the creation (research), transmission (education), and technology transfer of knowledge in these areas at the national and international levels.

It combines scientific and technological expertise, operating as an inter-school department within the Polytechnic School and the School of Science. Its faculty members work in the fields of Computer Science, Bioengineering, Operation Research, and Robotics.

The research of Perception&Interaction Lab focuses on the study and computational modeling of human perception, applied to human-computer…
