Organizational Setting The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance and policy aspects of FAO's activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their development, with emphasis on human well-being, food security and poverty reduction; post-harvest utilization, marketing and trade; collection and dissemination of fishery statistics; and the management and conservation of living aquatic resources. The post is located in the Sustainable Aquaculture area of NFI and is based at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Reporting Lines The Senior Fishery Officer (Aquaculture) will work under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director, NFI.Technical Focus Lead coordination of meetings of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) Sub-Committee on Aquaculture and the ITWG AqGR; coordinate inputs to FAO Statutory Bodies and liaise with FAO Decentralized Offices on aquaculture-related agreements, aligned with FAO's Blue Transformation Roadmap and the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA).Key

Results Leadership and technical policy expertise for planning, development and implementation of Divisional programmes, projects and services in line with the FAO Strategic Framework.

Key Functions Plans, manages or leads highly specialized or multidisciplinary teams; coordinates cross-divisional committees, project teams and working groups; provides technical leadership/secretariat services on technical networks and policy standard setting bodies.

Analyzes global and country-specific requirements to inform the FAO Strategic Framework, Programme of Work and Budget, work plans and budgets.

Implements and monitors programmes involving evidence-based strategies, tools, methodologies and reporting frameworks.

Conducts research and analysis to support technical standards, international instruments, publications and programme development; provides technical and policy advisory services.

Provides technical and policy advice to Members and technical support to Decentralized Offices in programme development and implementation.

Leads and/or collaborates in capacity development and knowledge sharing activities, including preparation of related information and online tools.

Represents the Organization at international meetings, develops partnerships and negotiates working relationships with international and national stakeholders.

Leads and/or participates in resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Strategic Framework.

Specific Functions Acts as Secretary to COFI:

AQ, organizing sessions and coordinating processes with COFI Secretaries.

Monitors the implementation of COFI:

AQ's programme of work.

Acts as Secretary to ITWG AqGR, organizing sessions and related activities; monitors ITWG AqGR's programme of work.

Coordinates aquaculture inputs to FAO’s Statutory Bodies and reports on COFI:

AQ outcomes with follow-up actions.

Coordinates NFI inputs to international aquaculture-related UN processes and conferences.

Manages the COFI:

AQ Questionnaire and related instruments; analyzes responses and develops dissemination strategies.

Promotes COFI:

AQ, GSAAP and the Global Sustainable Aquaculture Advancement Partnership at international, regional and national levels; develops resource mobilization strategies.

Liaises with FAO Decentralized Offices and Regional Bodies to promote global aquaculture and support regional initiatives.

Coordinates liaison with regional and international partners on aquaculture.

Contributes to information and awareness products related to FAO priorities in sustainable aquaculture.

Initiates, develops and/or manages proposals to mobilize extra-budgetary resources.
