Senior Forestry Officer (Forest Biodiversity and Drylands)
In this role you will provide leadership and technical expertise to advance biodiversity and sustainable management of forests and drylands within multifunctional landscapes. You will support the FAO Strategic Framework through cross-divisional programmes, policy advice, and capacity development with Members and Decentralized Offices. You will drive evidence-based approaches, develop tools and frameworks, and represent FAO in international forums. This is a mission-driven position that shapes biodiversity mainstreaming and sustainable land management at global and national levels.

Provide technical leadership and coordination for biodiversity mainstreaming in forestry and drylands across projects and cross-divisional initiatives

Analyze global and country needs to inform FAO Strategy, Programme of Work, budgets and resource plans

Develop and monitor innovative tools, methodologies, and monitoring/reporting frameworks for program implementation

Conduct and oversee research to support technical standards, international instruments, and policy advisory services

Offer technical and policy support to FAO Members and decentralized offices for program design and implementation

Lead capacity development and knowledge-sharing activities, including policy support, organizational learning, and learning tools

Represent FAO at international meetings, build strategic partnerships, and negotiate stakeholder agreements

Lead and/or participate in resource mobilization aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework Provide leadership to mainstream biodiversity in forestry and dryland landscapes

Coordinate with FAO units to align biodiversity conservation with sustainable production goals

Coordinate inputs to CBD, KM-GBF, UNCCD and align with LDN targets

Foster strategic partnerships with institutions, NGOs, private sector and donors

Oversee secretariat services to the COFO Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral Systems Mobilize and manage financial resources for programmes and projects

Perform other duties as required
