Responsibilities

Two Year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology at Duly Health and Care

The Neuropsychological & Psychological Services department provides comprehensive outpatient evaluations to patients in the Chicagoland area. The office is conveniently located in Romeoville, IL and services patients from all the surrounding suburbs. There are currently three adult neuropsychologists and two testing psychologists.

Referrals for neuropsychological evaluations are primarily received from neurology, primary care, and behavioral health (including psychiatrists, psychiatric providers, therapists, and health psychologists). Depending on fellow interests, rotations in the health psychology clinic conducting pre‑surgical bariatric and spinal cord stimulator evaluations may be available. Neuropsychologists frequently consult with the referral sources to clarify referral question, ensure good continuity of care, and provide psychoeducation about neurocognitive, psychiatric, and behavioral disorders.

The Neuropsychology Fellowship Program

Core Competencies have been denied in the following areas:
Ethical and Legal Standards, Professional Values and Attitudes, Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Individual and Cultural Diversity, Assessment, Intervention, Consultation, Clinical Supervision/Teaching, and Research/Program Evaluation.

Training emphasis is placed on timely and efficient neuropsychological assessment. It is anticipated that the fellow will spend 50‑75% of their time gaining clinical experiences and the remaining time is dedicated to didactics, research, and elective educational opportunities tailored to the individual’s education and training needs.

Program Features:

The fellow will have the opportunity to observe, interview, and study individuals presenting with focal and diffuse brain disease, neurodegenerative conditions, neurodevelopmental injury and abnormality, and psychiatric conditions and other episodic and chronic conditions. The goal is for the fellow to learn the basics of a neurological examination, neuroimaging, and other neurodiagnostic techniques to understand the affective, cognitive, and personality changes that commonly occur with neurological conditions and those that mimic neurological conditions.

The fellow will learn to integrate this data into an integrated case formulation of the patient’s neurobehavioral condition and likely course to establish recommendations and a treatment plan.

Program Requirements and Options

Program Evaluation/Research Project:
In addition to gaining clinical experience, fellows will be expected to demonstrate competence in research by completing a program development, research, or program evaluation project. Activities that may satisfy this requirement include a publication of a paper, book chapter, or case report, or the presentation of a paper or findings at a conference.

Training in Supervision:
The fellow may also have the opportunity to develop skills as a clinical supervisor through tiered supervision of a practicum student.
