Job Summary
The Plant Sanitation Manager is responsible for developing and directing the Sanitation program, ensuring that all current Food Safety Standards are met throughout the site. The manager trains and develops sanitation employees to identify and control GMP issues and enforce food safety standards. The manager communicates sanitation issues clearly with the Plant Manager, Quality Manager, Maintenance Manager, Business Unit Manager, Shipping Manager, Line Foremen, and Sanitation Staff.
Job Duties- Assist in the development and maintenance of the Sanitation program (HACCP, Allergen, etc.) for various products in compliance with customer and government regulations.
- Assist with consumer complaint issues and lead plant teams to minimize complaints.
- Assist with the development of sanitation procedures and paperwork.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the Plant Manager and Quality/Sanitation team.
- Work with the Sanitation team to identify sanitation or regulation issues at the assigned facility.
- Ensure the facility is ready for third‑party, regulatory, or customer inspections.
- Assist with policy, procedures, and paperwork to ensure that all company and customer standards are achieved.
- Provide an atmosphere that allows for the development of supervisors and managers.
- Manage the master sanitation schedule for assigned facilities.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives of facility sanitation.
- Control and maintain the sanitation budget.
- Manage sanitation chemical suppliers and oversee purchase of all sanitation and janitorial supplies.
- Manage sanitation supply inventory.
- Manage sanitation staff; approve hours and schedules as needed.
- Work with the Safety Manager and Quality Manager to identify and correct sanitation or environmental issues at the assigned facility.
- Ensure all chemicals used in the plant are approved for such use and that all chemicals have current SDS information on site.
- Oversee facility titrations of all chemicals needing dilution.
- Develop and train all steps of each plant clean‑up.
- Escalate pest control issues and manage pest control program where directed.
- Perform other duties as identified or assigned by the Quality Manager/Plant Manager.
- Master Sanitation Plan and other legal requirements for the food industry, including GMPs.
- Knowledgeable regarding FDA and USDA requirements.
- Knowledgeable in GMPs, HACCP, Allergens, and SQF/BRC.
- Understanding of the 10 Principles of Sanitary Design and 7 Steps of Sanitation.
- Good understanding of equipment and how ingredient functionality relates to potential insect/harborage development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, computer literate, self‑motivated, able to make sound business decisions.
- Excellent motivational and people skills.
- Strong analytical ability, leadership strength, and ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
- MS Office applications:
Outlook, Word, Excel. - SAP software experience is a plus.
- NEOGEN software experience is a plus.
- Workforce management software, Dayforce is a plus.
- Undergraduate degree preferred.
- Five (5) plus years’ experience in the food industry with at least three (3) years in a leadership role such as a Sanitation Manager/Supervisor.
- Certifications are a plus: PCQI, HACCP, SQF Practitioner, etc.
- Work is performed in a combination office setting and processing/plant floor environment.
- Multi‑shift production operations may include exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery and forklifts.
- Production environment may be wet/humid with temperature fluctuations from refrigerated to ambient or warm in summer months depending on the facility.

The pay range for this full‑time, salaried position is $97,210 – $145,814 per year. Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job‑related skills, and relevant education or training. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive based on company and individual performance. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, 401(k), and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
