SEND Learning Support Assistant

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support individual students or small groups in the classroom, focusing on their specific learning and emotional needs.
  • Assist in the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to make them accessible to students with SEND.
  • Implement specific intervention strategies, under the direction of the class teacher/SENCO, such as phonics, social skills or sensory breaks.
  • Help manage challenging behaviour, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing clear feedback to teachers and the SENCO.
  • Foster student independence, self-esteem and social development.
  • Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
What We're Looking For
  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting those with SEND.
  • Proven experience working with children, preferably in an educational or care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively.
  • A resilient, patient, and flexible approach to working in a dynamic school environment.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, but also to show initiative and work independently.
  • A relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential if you have extensive experience.
  • A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
