A supportive and driven Romford Secondary School is seeking a resilient and proactive Teaching Assistant to work across Years 7–11. This is a mainstream role, with a particular focus on providing additional support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), both in and out of the classroom.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams to help students reach their academic, social, and emotional potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored support to SEN students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
* Assist with the delivery of the secondary curriculum.
* Support pupils in managing their social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
* Reinforce class teaching, help explain tasks, and encourage engagement.
* Support teachers with classroom management and preparation of learning materials.
* Build positive working relationships with students, helping them to develop confidence and independence.
Essential:
* Maths and English GCSE (Grade C/4 or above)
* Understanding of the secondary curriculum (KS3–KS4)
* Ability to work calmly and effectively with teenagers
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* A resilient, patient, and compassionate approach
* Ability to support students with a range of SEN needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, learning difficulties)
* Willingness to support students’ social and emotional development
Desirable:
* Experience working in a secondary school environment
* Previous SEN, pastoral, or youth-work experience
* Relevant Teaching Assistant Qualification
