About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer - Schemes to lead and deliver highways, traffic, and parking projects from inception through to completion. Working within the Highways, Traffic & Parking team, you will play a key role in designing, managing, and implementing civil engineering schemes that support the council's strategic objectives and enhance local infrastructure.

You'll oversee multiple projects simultaneously, manage contractors and consultants, and ensure all work complies with CDM Regulations and organisational standards. This role also involves close collaboration with elected Members, stakeholders, and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Lead on the delivery of highways, traffic, and parking schemes using specialist software such as AutoCAD.
Carry out feasibility studies, surveys, investigations, and prepare technical reports.
Provide technical expertise across the service and support colleagues where needed.
Oversee scheme budgets and ensure projects are delivered within financial and time constraints.
Represent the Council at meetings with external bodies such as DfT, TfL, LoTAG, and community groups.
Attend site visits and meetings, including those outside standard office hours when required.
Lead, coach, and mentor junior engineers to support high quality project delivery.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Data Protection, and other statutory requirements.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

Experience

Strong background managing and delivering highways, traffic, or parking schemes.
Experience working with contractors and managing budgets.
Proven ability to lead projects and teams effectively.
Ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels.

Qualifications

A recognised qualification in Civil Engineering or proven technical ability at senior engineering level.
Experience in either public or private sector at a senior engineering grade.
Specialist expertise in at least one area (e.g., lighting, drainage, flood management, bridges) is desirable.
