Overview

The 20‑Month BSc(Hons) Midwifery Shortened Programme at Middlesex University aims to produce competent, caring, research‑based midwives capable of delivering effective woman‑centred care for mothers and their families. The programme is full‑time and commences September 2026.

The course is delivered between Middlesex University, Hendon and BHRUT – Queen’s Hospital Romford, with time split across the two sites. Maternity outpatient care is provided at Queen’s and King George Hospital, while intrapartum care is offered at Queen’s only. Students will gain experience in both low‑risk and high‑risk care.

• Active Adult Nursing Registration (NMC Registration)
• Diploma or degree in Adult Nursing
• Proven post‑registration experience
• GCSE Maths and English or equivalence, or IELTS 7.0

• To attain a registered midwifery qualification
• To communicate effectively with women and their families throughout the pre‑conception, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages under the supervision of the Registered Midwife (Practice Supervisor/Assessor)
• To diagnose pregnancy, assess and monitor women holistically throughout the pre‑conception, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages through the use of a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive conclusions under the supervision of the Registered Midwife/Mentor
• To work towards the midwifery standards of proficiency that are contained in the Practice assessment documents
• To work towards achieving experience under the supervision of the activities of the midwife as outlined in the European Union Midwives Directive (80/155/EEC Article
  4)
