Dispatcher
We are seeking an experienced emergency medical dispatcher to join our communications dispatcher center. This full‑time position offers 24/7 coverage with either the 6 am–6 pm or 6 pm–6 am shift.
Job DescriptionAs a dispatcher, you will:
- Operate a multi‑line telephone console system and radio/phone/computer communications to send crews and vehicles to appropriate locations.
- Receive emergency and non‑emergency calls, gather and record essential information, and provide pre‑arrival instructions for emergency medical calls.
- Determine call priority, enter data into the Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and monitor field unit status to coordinate and prioritize dispatch schedules.
- Provide field units with information regarding orders, traffic, obstacles, and requirements; translate information to appropriate ambulance crew.
- Operate dispatch equipment, learn street and station locations, and comply with dispatch policies and operating procedures.
- Verify insurance information and eligibility, entering verified data into the system.
- Maintain calm and effective under heavy workloads and emergency situations.
- Support the continuity of service during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24‑hour coverage.
- Minimum 6 months experience in customer service or direct customer contact work.
- Minimum 6 months call‑center experience in a fast‑paced environment.
- Must pass the EMD program within 1–3 months of hire and maintain certification during employment.
- Proficiency in Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems or strong aptitude for learning relevant technology.
- Strong typing and data entry skills.
- Thorough understanding of emergency procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
- Proficiency in oral and written English communication with ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
- Exceptional organizational skills; ability to multitask effectively in high‑pressure situations.
- Strong active listening and interpersonal communication skills.
- Sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision‑making abilities.
- Adaptability and flexibility to meet operational needs.
- High school diploma or GED required.
