Distribution Center Coordinator
Harbison Walker International invites candidates to apply for the Distribution Center Coordinator role. This position ensures the smooth operation of the loading dock and all inbound/outbound loads from the sourcing center, including preparation of loads, creation of shipping documentation, and scheduling of carriers.
SummaryThe Distribution Center Coordinator is responsible for managing logistics operations, providing customer service, and coordinating inventory management processes. The role also involves daily Gemba walks and safety observation reporting.
Responsibilities- Inbound and outbound logistics
- Process orders through Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) and Carrier Point
- Prepare required shipping documentation
- Receive, inspect, log, and stock inbound inventory in OTM
- Fulfill customer orders and prepare for shipment
- Load shipments and unload deliveries at the sourcing center
- Customer service
- Respond to customer inquiries via email, phone, and other channels
- Process customer quote requests
- Manage incoming orders and requests
- Follow up on commitments to customers and internal stakeholders
- Maintain customer records
- Inventory management
- Perform weekly cycle counts and physical inventories
- Review days to expire on items
- Consolidate inbound loads to maximize shipment loading
- Report scrap inventory due to shelf life or quality concerns
- Safety and operations
- Conduct daily Gemba walks and record safety observations
- Inspect material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, dock leveler, pallet turntables)
- Perform weekly safety observations
- Carrier and driver coordination
- Maintain relationships with local LTL carriers and drivers to ensure on‑time pickups and deliveries
- High School diploma or GED
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Oracle ERP
- Knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, safety, and forklift operation
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Strong organizational skills with accurate attention to detail
- Efficient time‑management and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently
- Ability to handle stressful situations professionally
- 0–2 years of experience loading and unloading trucks, inventory procedures, forklift operation, scheduling and delivery coordination, and direct customer interaction
- Physical activity: standing 2/3 time, walking/sitting 1/3 to 2/3 time; use of hands/fingers, lifting, reaching common activities
- Lifting: up to 50 lbs up to 1/3 of the time
- Vision: accurate close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus
- Environment: 1/3 to 2/3 time in office setting; wet/humid conditions; near moving mechanical parts; less than 1/3 time in extreme heat or cold; outdoor weather; high places; exposure to fumes, chemicals, electrical shock risk
- Noise: moderate noise exposure
