Position enforces the laws of this state and county and provides the residents of the county with full range of law enforcement and related social services on demand, as prescribed by Oregon law, county ordinance, and judicial precedent.

Full-time 40 hour per week position. Includes excellent benefit package, including medical/vision/dental/long-term disability/basic life coverage and County-paid PERS retirement after required waiting periods.

This is a union position represented by Douglas County Law Enforcement Association.

NOTE: In addition to filling current vacancies, a Hiring List will be established to fill future Patrol Deputy openings. The list will be active until positions are filled. HOW TO APPLY:
  • Applicants must complete Successful recent (within the past twelve months) Front Line test with National Testing Network ((NTN) ORpossess a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited, degree-granting college or university recognized by the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization under the provisions of ORS 348-604.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office offers full testing services for the position of Patrol Deputy through National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to , select ‘Find Jobs’, then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

When you visit the  website:

  • Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test.
  • Review all information related to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy position including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
  • Review detailed information about the testing process.
  • Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired).
Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to Douglas County. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on Douglas County’s eligibility list. Douglas County will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.
  • Applicants must run the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at a date provided to applicant after successfully passing the NTN exam OR
  • Applicants must provide the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office proof of successful completion of the following physical proficiency from the administering agency: Recent (within the past twelve months) Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) completed time from an Oregon Law Enforcement organization or authorized testing agency (NTN).
  • Applicants must complete the NEOGOV (Douglas County Sheriff’s Office) application.

  • Essential functions:Enforce the laws of this state and county; provide service of court documents; enforce traffic laws; operate emergency response vehicles; stop vehicles and pedestrians for enforcement of state traffic and criminal laws; inspect vehicles; serve arrest and search warrants; effect the arrest of suspects; write reports; read and interpret legal document decisions; use a computer; as required, use a firearm and such non-lethal weaponry with a high degree of accuracy;

    and operate two-way radio system under normal and stressful conditions. Requires regular and consistent attendance.
