This position is for a Laundry Machine Operator in the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) of Environmental Management Service and contributes in the processing of textiles for patient care areas within the Medical Center - White City and the Wolf Creek Job Corps. The incumbent will mainly work in the clean area of the TCPF but at times will also work in the soiled area.

Applicants must demonstrate evidence of training or experience sufficient to perform the duties, including but not limited to: ensuring washers are used to their loaded capacities, preventing over‑loading or under‑loading, sorting soiled linens, pre‑soaking stained textiles, accurately weighing wash loads, washing and unloading soiled textiles, maintaining washroom equipment, chemicals, dryers, pneumatic lift system, weigh carts, and proper administration of oxygenated bleaches, laundry alkalis, sours, and detergents.

Applicants must also meet the screening element in the online questionnaire and be rated in accordance with OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Must be capable of lifting loads exceeding 50 pounds, bending at the waist repetitively, pulling and pushing heavy loads of wet and dry textiles, and standing/walking on hard concrete floors in hot, humid, noisy environments. Exposure to bruises, unpleasant odors, wet textiles, lint, wet floors, temperature extremes, and hazardous chemicals may occur.

• Load and unload a 450 lb dryer and a 110 lb dryer using overhead rail slings and carts for movement of textiles.
• Select proper temperature and drying cycle for various fabrics.
• Operate a 65‑lb washer/extractor located in the clean area and follow sud‑sing, bleaching, rinsing, and souring operations under the supervision of the Textile Care Supervisor.
• Monitor water levels, temperatures, gauges, valves, and safety devices to ensure correct wash cycles.
• Monitor loads to ensure proper utilization of equipment and economical operation.
• Coordinate workflow with the washperson to maximize dryer use and maintain adequate quantities of textiles.
• Verify TCPF lists and identify items against items received; mark unidentified items and apply control measures to ensure timely return.
• Perform washroom duties and operate washer/extractors when higher grade operators are unavailable.
• Clean and maintain worksite and equipment using air hoses, brushes, brooms, and central vacuum units.
• Clean lint collectors in machines and on the building exterior, including work from steps and ladders.
• Perform other TCPF tasks during slack periods or leave of other employees.
