Certified Volunteer Ombudsmen ( om
· buds·men / ˈȯm-,
-bədz-, -ˌmen ) work as a team to advocate for the rights and dignity of residents who are elderly and disabled living in long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen are the voice of the consumer and work to make the system responsive to individual needs and wishes. Ombudsmen investigate and resolve problems collegially until resident concerns are resolved.

• Advocate for residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult foster homes.
• Visit residents, listen to their concerns, resolve complaints, and advocate for their rights.
• Help ensure residents receive the right care, timely call responses, meals, and medications, with attention to dignity and quality of life.

• Compassionate, good listener with a desire to make a difference.
• No special degree required.
• Willingness to participate in local training and work with a team.

• Flexible schedule, local training and support, opportunities to expand learning and meet like-minded people.
