Schedule: Rotating Weekends, 3:00pm-11:00pm (Holidays Required)
Mandatory Training: Must be available for training 3 consecutive days during first 90 days (Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00am-4:30pm)
General Summary Of PositionResponsible for communicating with patients, families, physicians, quality review and insurance companies to obtain information for insurance verification and patient care. Includes greeting patients, providing information, answering phones, registering outpatients and/or inpatients, coding lab accounts and entering orders. Additional responsibilities include obtaining demographics, insurance info, appropriate codes and authorizations, and ensuring billing compliance. Provides customer service, patient flow and staff utilization support.
May perform bed assignments, assign physicians and schedule appointments. Provides billing support, reviews patient accounts, collects payments at the time of service and addresses past due accounts with patient advocacy.
- Contribute to department goals and objectives and adhere to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
- Greet patients, families and visitors, screen visitors, issue passes, alert nurses to complaints, place on each patient.
- Interview patients, families and outside sources for complete demographic and financial data; input data into registration, billing and tracking systems.
- Ensure necessary questionnaires and forms are completed per regulatory agencies or hospital policies; complete ABN process and explain to patient; complete Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire and distribute Medicare Letter.
- Confirm coverage using electronic verification systems and obtain authorizations; follow up on authorizations and referrals as needed.
- Proficient in multiple systems:
Teletracking, SMS, Cerner, Amnion and IDX. - Explain regulatory financial requirements; collect deposits and deductibles; review past due accounts and refer to patient advocacy.
- Follow cash reconciliation policy guidelines and complete daily reconciliations.
- Comprehend and adhere to HIPAA and Red Flag rules.
- Adhere to Med Star Health Financial Assistance policies.
- Use Managed Care Handbook for plan requirements of contracted services.
- Maintain flexibility learning all areas of Patient Access; perform admitting functions timely; work additional time when needed.
- Scan functions into imaging system and audit control records with 98% accuracy.
- Provide administrative support across Patient Access areas.
- Maintain accurate documentation.
- Complete mandatory training (SITEL) within defined timeframe.
- Participate in meetings, committees, represent department and hospital in community outreach.
- Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Customer service experience required.
- Previous healthcare experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of computer applications and basic computer skills preferred.
- Demonstrates dependability, critical thinking, self-management, initiative, creativity and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to perform in a high‑pressure environment and deal effectively with a diverse population.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
