Unified Disposal Partners is seeking an experienced Dispatcher / Logistics Coordinator to oversee daily tractor-trailer operations transporting waste from our transfer stations to designated landfills.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can manage drivers, coordinate third-party trucking companies, solve transportation problems, and use operating data to improve productivity and safety.
Responsibilities
- Plan and manage daily dispatch across multiple transfer stations and landfills, ensuring adequate trucking capacity and timely movement of waste.
- Coordinate UDP’s in-house drivers and third-party trucking companies, balancing schedules, equipment availability, facility hours, and transportation costs.
- Monitor drivers throughout the day using GPS and fleet management systems to track loads, turnaround times, delays, idle time, and route efficiency.
- Maximize loads and tons hauled per truck while reducing unnecessary mileage, downtime, and cost per ton.
- Recruit, interview, and help hire qualified tractor-trailer drivers; coordinate onboarding and communicate performance expectations.
- Track driver safety metrics, identify concerns, and work with operations and safety personnel on coaching and corrective action.
- Coordinate with transfer station managers, landfill personnel, and maintenance teams to resolve delays, equipment issues, and service disruptions.
- Manage third-party carrier performance, including reliability, capacity, rates, and service quality.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records and provide daily reporting on loads, tons hauled, driver productivity, trucking costs, and safety.
- Hold drivers and carriers accountable for safe, reliable, and productive operations.
Qualifications
- Experience in trucking dispatch, transportation logistics, or fleet coordination; waste hauling experience preferred.
- Experience managing company drivers and third-party carriers.
- Working knowledge of tractor-trailer operations, driver scheduling, hours-of-service requirements, and transportation safety.
- Comfortable using GPS, telematics, dispatch software, and Excel to monitor performance and make decisions.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond quickly in a fast-paced operating environment.
- Driver recruiting and hiring experience preferred.
