Join the Clean Energy Revolution. Become a Senior Transactional Attorney at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role you’ll lead commercial contract negotiations, contract interpretation and management, and provide general advice and counsel to all SCE business units, including Energy Procurement, Information Technology and Cybersecurity, Transmission and Distribution, and Customer Service. The successful candidate will handle or assist in a wide range of procurement and other contract negotiations for the company and will report to a Director/Managing Attorney.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex legal analysis to craft strategies and interpretations that anticipate the outcome of important and uncertain legal and factual issues, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Lead the development and implementation of legal strategies and SCE's position on changes in laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the most senior levels of SCE and represent the company at significant public, business and legal gatherings, interacting with government officials, industry bodies and clients, as required.
  • Develop SCE's legal strategy to select, retain, manage and evaluate effective outside counsel.
  • Guide corporate policy on regulation development, business processes, safety, ethics and compliance, operational efficiency, future business models, with business acumen, creativity, and legal expertise.
  • Lead the provision of legal advice on aspects of corporate development and strategic initiatives while driving cross-functional alignment.
  • Conduct all aspects of regulatory litigation, leading legal strategy and preparing all pleadings.
  • Lead SCE regarding regulatory and enforcement agencies, including the California Public Utilities Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on complex legal matters, drafting and preparing regulatory filings, testimonies and reports, and advocating company positions at hearings.
  • Oversee the execution, structuring, drafting, reviewing and negotiation of complex agreements, identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions.
  • Oversee compliance with federal and state securities laws and corporate governance requirements, identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions.
  • Oversee the organization's docket of litigation and investigation matters, ensuring a sound strategy for engaging with outside counsel and internal legal teams.
  • Ensure the protection of the company's physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Eight or more years of experience practicing law, including at a law firm, corporate in‑house setting, or government authority.
  • Current member in good standing of the State Bar of California or willingness and ability to become accredited as such.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Previous in‑house counsel experience.
  • Experience with renewable power purchase agreements, energy storage agreements, project finance transactions.
  • Experience interacting with non‑lawyer, business and technical clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, promoting positive cooperation within the legal team, with other Company personnel, and with outside counsel.
Additional Information
  • The position’s work mode is hybrid. Employees will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.
