The Texas Workforce Commission helps people with disabilities prepare for, obtain, retain, and advance in employment through the public vocational rehabilitation (VR) program.

Benefits- Competitive starting salary: $3,582.00 – $4,940.00 per month.

- VRC Trainee upon hire; after a successful 6‑month probation, considered for promotion to VRC I with 5% increase.

- Assists eligible individuals with disabilities to prepare, retain, obtain, and advance in competitive, integrated employment and assists students with disabilities in transitioning from high school to postsecondary education.
- Develops and maintains relationships with community referral sources, businesses, employers, and schools.
- Collects and analyzes necessary information to make accurate eligibility decisions.
- Assists the customer in choosing an appropriate employment by analyzing strengths, resources, priorities, abilities, and interests and matching them to the current job market.
- Works with the consumer to develop a plan of services designed to achieve identified employment goals.
- Ensures timely, cost‑effective provision of services and consumer progress toward employment goals.
- Develops and implements a process leading to successful job placement.
- Applies best‑value purchasing practices and uses available, comparable benefits and services to ensure effective use of public funds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree with major in Rehabilitation Counseling or Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from an accredited college or university; or
- Master’s degree with major in counseling or related fields (Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services) plus one year of related work experience; or
- Master’s with any other major plus two years of related work experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree with major in Vocational Rehabilitation from an accredited college or university plus one year of related work experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree with major in Counseling, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Public Health plus two years of related work experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree with any other major plus three years of related work experience.
Bachelor's Degree in a field reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation such as counseling, social work, psychology, disability studies, business administration, human resources, special education, supported employment, customized employment, economics, or another field that adequately prepares individuals to work with customers and employers. No experience required.
Employment RequirementsThe position may require up to 30% travel. Counselors are required to travel to reach assigned consumers regularly. Duties also include the ability to lift/carry 10 pounds.
