Basic PurposeThe Corps Program Assistant will assist Corps Officers with daily coordination and implementation of comprehensive youth ministries for the Roseville Corps. The Assistant will provide leadership for youth development and outreach programs, including planning, resourcing, volunteer leadership training, and implementation of The Salvation Army's program standards. The Assistant will work with Corps Officers to develop outreach opportunities to draw new people to the Corps from the community, After School Program, and the broader community.
This position also coordinates, implements, and administers the Tutoring and Mentoring After‑school Program, managing program development and budget oversight, staff development, and off‑site collaborations. The Assistant ensures a safe, nurturing, and well‑supervised after‑school environment, liaises with parents, volunteers, and donors, plans creative learning environments, establishes interest centers, and prepares required materials. The Assistant collects program data and prepares reports. Excellence in leadership, communication, and patience is essential to create a stable and nurturing atmosphere, increase membership, and represent the Roseville Corps in the community.
- Serve as the first point of contact for parents who want their children to participate in youth programs.
- Plan lessons, teach, and lead Sunday school classes using approved curriculum.
- Ensure attendance is taken at all youth programs by assigned leaders.
- Reach out to absent children & families.
- Provide communication about children’s ministries to parents, leaders, corps members, and the community, including a monthly Youth Program Newsletter.
- Plan and implement special events for children (e.g., Family Outreach events, Back‑to‑School Drive, Troop Court of Awards, Easter, and Christmas play/musical).
- Coordinate and provide transportation for youth on Sundays and Wednesdays.
- Assist in planning and implementing the ENCORE worship arts program.
- Stock, organize, and maintain youth ministry supplies throughout the year.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate all aspects of an annual week‑long Vacation Bible School, including promotional materials, daily crafts, activities, Bible lessons, and snacks.
- Promote, recruit, and transport youth to Divisional and Territorial youth events (e.g., SAY Rally, Corps Cadet Retreat, Divisional Youth Retreat, Western Youth Institute).
- Attend youth ministry trainings to stay current on trends and education.
- Lead chapel and provide Bible teaching for children in the After School Program and Early Care & Education Program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assist Corps Officers with training and record keeping for Protecting the Mission child safety training.
- Coordinate resources for Troop leaders, submit monthly/quarterly reports to Corps Officers and Divisional Headquarters.
- Serve as a troop leader as needed.
- Coordinate and support Corps Cadet Counselor and Bible Bowl Coaches with resources.
- Plan and implement creative arts and music programs for youth (e.g., Christmas, Easter, fundraisers).
- Assist recruitment and registration of campers for summer camp at Camp Del Oro.
- Create opportunities to connect with youth in the Community Center and Early Care & Education Center.
- Attend monthly Corps Council and Pastoral Council meetings.
- Attend all staff meetings and events as required.
- Assist with the Christmas Kettle program (driving, collecting, counting money).
- Plan and implement weekly Young People’s Legion (YPL) youth group.
- Other duties assigned by Corps Officers.
- Track and submit statistical reports.
