Overview

If you are a water resource engineer or hydro/geologist, Wood Rodgers, a leading consulting engineering firm headquartered in California, is hiring a project hydro/geologist in our Water Resources Department. We are seeking a motivated individual with groundwater resource management, water supply development, and well design experience to join our Water Supply department. Our work centers on supporting communities of all sizes to provide safe and reliable water supplies.

We develop solutions to our groundwater resource needs based on an understanding of groundwater basins to support drinking water supplies, sustainable agricultural practices, and groundwater recharge. Our projects consist of a wide array of water supply projects – from new water sources to rehabilitating older sources to improve reliability and/or water quality. This is a staffed, hourly, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and provide technical expertise in developing groundwater resources for municipal, commercial, and agricultural clients.
  • Oversee and support the development of groundwater recharge projects for a diverse range of clients.
  • Plan, organize, and manage all aspects of projects to ensure successful completion within defined constraints such as time, budget, and resources.
  • Implement business development strategies to grow department revenue, expand market share, and maintain leadership in geologic and groundwater-related services.
  • Conduct geologic and hydrogeologic studies, managing field activities and staff to optimize data collection, mitigate risks, and achieve project objectives.
  • Perform well field assessments, including the development of capital improvement and asset management plans.
  • Design and manage municipal supply well construction projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide field oversight for contractor activities, including borehole drilling, well construction, well development, and testing.
  • Collect groundwater samples from production and monitoring wells using appropriate methods and tools.
  • Travel to project sites in a company vehicle, working in various weather conditions such as rain, heat, or cold.
  • Be available for occasional overnight trips as needed, primarily within California, with travel expenses covered.
  • Assess and evaluate geological features, project sites, and environmental conditions.
  • Analyze variations in pumping water levels, sand production, and electrical consumption to assess well and pump performance.
  • Apply analytical and numerical groundwater models to support contaminant investigations and water resource projects (preferred but not required).
  • Develop well rehabilitation and modification programs to restore capacity and improve water quality.
  • Oversee the preparation of geologic and hydrogeologic cross-sections for groundwater resource protection and development.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to drive revenue growth and business opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Science (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Licensed in California as a Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE);
Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in hydrogeologic consulting, including data analysis, report preparation, and creating exhibits and figures to communicate geologic and hydrogeologic data.
  • Strong track record of client satisfaction.
  • Extensive experience in municipal water well design, drilling methods, construction, and testing.
  • Familiarity with State and local regulations governing municipal supply wells.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a commitment to teamwork and a collaborative, employee-owned culture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Esri ArcGIS.
  • Ability to travel and work in outdoor environments as needed for drilling and construction projects.
