Why this role matters:

As a Civil / Environmental Engineer at Water Works Engineers, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure throughout Southern California and the Western U.S. Based in our Los Angeles, San Diego, or Roseville office, you will collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers on projects that help communities maintain reliable water supplies and improve essential infrastructure.

Your work may include drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, well-site treatment systems, pipelines, pump stations, storage facilities, hydraulic modeling, and mechanical process systems. We welcome licensed Professional Engineers at the Associate (E2), Project (E3), and E4 levels, including engineers with project management or technical leadership experience. Responsibilities will align with your technical strengths, experience, and project needs, providing opportunities to contribute to established project teams and take ownership of design assignments, technical coordination, and project delivery.

Your

daily impact:
  • Perform and, depending on experience, lead engineering planning and design for water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure, including treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, storage facilities, and related site improvements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and evaluate design alternatives for hydraulic, treatment, conveyance, and mechanical process systems, including process piping, valves, pumping equipment, and associated facilities.
  • Contribute to hydraulic modeling, system capacity evaluations, infrastructure planning, or treatment process design based on your expertise and project assignments.
  • Prepare and coordinate engineering reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineer's cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and other project disciplines to develop complete and constructible engineering solutions.
  • Support permitting and agency coordination, and apply relevant codes, design standards, regulatory requirements, and client criteria.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews to maintain accuracy and consistency across project deliverables.
  • Provide construction-phase engineering support through submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, field observations, and coordination with contractors and project teams.
  • Coordinate assigned work with project managers and technical leads, maintaining alignment with project scope, budgets, schedules, and delivery expectations.
  • For experienced engineers, lead design tasks or work packages, provide technical review and guidance, mentor junior engineers and designers, and support project management activities as assigned.
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits, and coordination across WWE offices while continuing to develop your technical expertise and professional capabilities.
What you bring to the table:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution, with experience relevant to municipal water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license required. California PE registration strongly preferred; registration requirements will depend on assigned responsibilities.
  • Relevant engineering experience, with the depth of technical responsibility and leadership experience appropriate to the position level.
