Hourly rate: $33/hr we are searching for Recovery Coaches to assist with transitioning clients from incarceration to the community. This unique position works closely with a recovery team, providing direct services to individuals both while incarcerated and initially while on parole.
This position is responsible for providing information, support, assistance, advocacy, and systems navigation to these individuals within a recovery-oriented support environment that advances the recovery orientation.
Candidates must have a Recovery Coach/Peer Support Specialist Certification and at least one year of experience with an understanding of multiple paths of recovery and basic knowledge of addiction, mental illness and/or substance use disorders. They should be willing and able to learn, demonstrate an ability to work successfully with underserved populations and complex conditions, and possess a broad-based working knowledge of community resources.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to utilize an electronic record are required.
Recovery Coach is licensed through the State of Michigan and provides support and assistance to individuals that have substance use disorders. Positions are trained and educated through DHHS to perform their job roles, but will need training regarding working in a prison and with offenders. For this program they will be assigned to a prison and will meet with offenders who have opioid or amphetamine use disorder and mental health concerns.
They will assist in setting up treatment appointments in the community when the offender releases, supervise telehealth sessions and track work productivity and outcome measures, and help offenders become more informed and skilled to be successful when they are on parole.
Tasks:
- Educate offenders about substance use and/or mental health disorders.
- Meet with offenders to engage them in services.
- Meet with individuals to assist them in scheduling treatment.
- Provide support as the offender experiences challenges when they do not have the skills and/or support to solve them.
- Educate about pathways to recovery.
- Review the parole plan with the offender and discuss resources and supports available to them to assist in being successful.
- Develop a plan to assist offenders if they feel overwhelmed and worry that they may abscond or violate parole.
- Communicate with agents about the offender’s treatment upon release and needs/concerns that the offender may have.
- Complete GPRA Assessment.
- Supervise telehealth visits.
- Contact offenders via phone upon release to assess need for additional supports and link them to those supports.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract. Salary: $33.00 per hour.

Schedule: 8 hour shift.
Education: High school or equivalent (Preferred).
Experience: Addiction Counseling: 1 year (Preferred).
License/Certification: Certified Recovery Specialist (Required).
