SEND Teaching Assistant - Full time, temporary to permanent from September 2026
This SEND Teaching Assistant role offers the opportunity to work full time within a specialist setting that supports pupils with additional and complex needs. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment where consistency, clear routines, and positive relationships are central to daily practice. This role is ideal for a SEND Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation, with the opportunity to move into a permanent position.
Dutiesas SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Provide classroom and pastoral support for pupils with SEND
- Support pupils on a one to one or small group basis as directed by teaching staff
- Assist pupils with engagement, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour strategies
- Follow individual education plans and behaviour support plans consistently
- Support learning activities and adapt tasks to meet individual needs
- Promote independence, confidence, and positive social interaction
- Use de escalation and behaviour management strategies effectively
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and wider professionals
- Contribute to a calm, safe, and structured learning environment
- Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times
- Experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant or supporting pupils with additional needs
- Team Teach training is desirable and applicants with current certification are encouraged to apply
- Willingness to undertake Team Teach training if not already trained
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour and emotional support
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Commitment to a full time, temporary to permanent role
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- Passion for inclusive education and supporting pupil development
