Art & Design Technology Teacher (AFArt&DT) Haslingden, England
Job Title: Art & Design Technology Teacher (SEN) – Full-Time
Location: Haslingden, Lancashire
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated Art & Design Technology Teacher to join a specialist SEN provision in Haslingden. Working with students aged 13 and above, you will deliver engaging, practical lessons that inspire creativity, develop life skills, and build confidence. The successful candidate will adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of learners with a range of additional needs, creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver differentiated Art & Design Technology lessons tailored to students' individual learning needs
- Adapt teaching strategies and practical activities to support students with a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and sensory needs
- Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive workshop/classroom environment that promotes creativity and independence
- Support students in achieving their EHCP targets and personalised learning outcomes
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, celebrating individual achievements
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, the SENCO, therapists, and external professionals to provide holistic support
- Encourage the development of communication, social skills, self-confidence, and independence through creative learning opportunities
- Ensure all practical activities are delivered in line with health and safety requirements
- Experience teaching Art and/or Design Technology at secondary level
- Previous experience working with students with Special Educational Needs is desirable
- Strong understanding of a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and sensory processing differences
- Ability to adapt lessons to meet varying abilities and learning styles
- Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills
- A patient, nurturing, and flexible approach to teaching
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
