Off-Site Manufacturing & Modular Engineering
Permanent | Full Time
Mech Electrics Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a long-standing engineering client we've proudly worked with for over 15 years.
The business operates within the Data Centre and Critical Infrastructure sector and, as part of its continued growth, has invested significantly in its own off-site manufacturing capability in Heywood.
We're now looking for a CAD / BIM Technician to join the engineering team based within this manufacturing facility.
This is an unusual opportunity because we're not necessarily looking for someone who already has every part of the finished skillset.
If you're already experienced in MEP CAD, Revit and BIM coordination, we'd certainly like to speak with you.
Equally, if you come from a strong mechanical, electrical or engineering CAD background and have experience producing detailed manufacturing, fabrication or assembly drawings, we'd be interested in talking to you about developing your skills into BIM and LOD 400 modelling.
THE OPPORTUNITYThe role sits between Design, Engineering and Manufacturing.
You'll work from offices located directly within the Heywood manufacturing campus, giving you the opportunity to see the equipment and assemblies you model being manufactured on the shop floor.
The long-term objective is to develop detailed, coordinated BIM models capable of supporting off-site manufacture of complex MEP modules and assemblies.
Rather than simply producing drawings, you'll increasingly understand how design information translates into something that can actually be fabricated, assembled, installed and commissioned.
For someone looking to develop into detailed BIM, DfMA and LOD 400 modelling, it's a particularly interesting career opportunity.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING- Produce and develop detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings and models.
- Develop coordinated Mechanical and Electrical services layouts.
- Work with engineers and designers to translate design intent into practical manufacturing information.
- Develop Revit models and detailed fabrication-level information.
- Coordinate MEP services and identify potential clashes or buildability issues.
- Produce drawings, assemblies, schedules and associated technical information for manufacture.
- Work directly with Design, Engineering, Project and Manufacturing teams.
- Use feedback from the manufacturing floor to improve drawings and models.
- Support the development of BIM standards, component libraries and repeatable manufacturing solutions.
- Progress towards producing LOD 400 information for complex off-site manufactured MEP assemblies.
There are several backgrounds that could work well for this position.
- You may already be an MEP CAD Technician, Revit Technician or BIM Technician working within Building Services.
- Alternatively, you could be a Mechanical or Electrical CAD / Design Engineer from a manufacturing, fabrication or engineered-product environment who wants to move into MEP, BIM and modular construction.
We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:
- Good 2D and/or 3D CAD capability, with AutoCAD, Revit or comparable engineering design software.
- An understanding of either MEP / Building Services OR detailed mechanical/electrical design for manufacture.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings and understand how components and systems are assembled.
- A genuine interest in developing further BIM, Revit, DfMA and LOD 400 capability.
Previous experience of Revit, Navisworks, BIM coordination, clash detection or LOD 400 would be advantageous, but we don't expect every applicant to already possess all of these skills.
WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENT?This isn't a conventional CAD position where drawings disappear into a…
