The Director, Lean Site Consultant is an internal site level Lean leader and subject matter expert who provides leadership to the implementation and governance of Wellstar's Lean Program. The role drives site-wide adoption of problem solving and continuous process improvement through facilitation of cross-functional teams toward sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable results. The position supports the site’s strategic plan in alignment with the Lean Transformation Office and works with Executive Sponsors, Process Owners, Physician and Administrative Leaders, and Front-line staff to deliver outcomes that enhance patient care, quality and safety.
Job SummaryThe Director, Lean Site Consultant leads Lean strategy at the site level, facilitates leadership to challenge status quo thinking, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement. This role trains and coaches employees and leaders across all levels, including Lean Site Consultants and Facilitators, and leads knowledge transfer of Lean philosophy and methodology, including A3 thinking. This position reports to a site executive leader and to the Lean Transformation Office within a matrixed organization.
CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions
- Communicate regularly with executive sponsors, team leaders, process owners, and other stakeholders about progress toward goals, critical factors, and obstacles.
- Lead and facilitate complex improvement events and projects, including assessment, planning, event facilitation, and follow-up to sustain outcomes; ensure quality standards and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
- Apply strong project management skills: define project A3, scope, timeline, data collection, and pre-project communication; keep projects on track and inform key sponsors; use escalation plans when timelines or outcomes are at risk.
- Collect and analyze Lean process data, identify opportunities, develop solutions, implement improvements, and help operational management sustain gains.
- Gather and track return on investment for initiatives.
- Act as a change agent to instill a process improvement culture across the organization.
- Teach the Lean improvement mindset and concepts through classroom, workshop, and project-based coaching.
- Mentor leadership teams in strategic focus areas, action plans, dashboards, linked measurement systems, and checking processes to execute work.
- Partner with operations to develop, implement, and sustain the Well Star management system model to support goal deployment.
- Support development of leader standard work for a linked checking and learning system that connects priorities to front-line work.
- Deploy and maintain a standardized Well Star Lean Standard Work process improvement methodology under the direction of the site Quality Lead.
- Use standardized checklists, roadmaps, standard work instructions, and job aids to support sustainable, repeatable, and measurable improvements.
- Collaborate with system LTO resources to ensure adherence to Lean Standard Work and provide feedback; escalate concerns as appropriate to ensure consistency.
- Identify and facilitate cross-functional improvement opportunities to leverage resources and learnings across the system (e.g., Quality and Safety, EHR initiatives, Clinical Operations, PI teams, Magnet, Baldrige).
