Job SummaryCandidate maintains and repairs low and high voltage electrical equipment and components. Responsible for troubleshooting electrical problems and faults and performing necessary repairs. Additional duties include systematic preventative maintenance of electrical systems, switch gear, breakers and specialized equipment related to electrical distribution such as UPS systems and line‑isolation monitors/equipment if applicable. Candidate will manage fire alarm system maintenance, repair, and contracted work.
Responsible for installing electrical outlets, ballasts, breakers, switches, etc. Uses hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment related to this discipline.
- Maintenance/ Repair (electrical systems, fire alarm systems, specialty and emergency power systems)
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment in his discipline on a scheduled basis.
- Trouble‑shoot and diagnose equipment to identify deficiencies in operation.
- Repair equipment associated with these areas of discipline.
- Prepare documentation related to systematic preventative maintenance or repair of equipment.
- Project Management
- Prepare and conduct risk‑assessment documentation for projects if applicable.
- Coordinate project meetings and schedules for installation/repair or inspection if applicable.
- Compile documentation and distribute as required within compliance timelines.
- Manage and coordinate purchase order documentation required for such projects if applicable.
- Training
- Develop training modules for special equipment technicians and others on equipment in these areas of discipline if applicable.
- Conduct training in services related to these equipment for initial troubleshooting and repair of equipment in this discipline if applicable.
- Maintain all training records for staff trained to include date of training and testing conducted to ensure training was effective if applicable.
- Miscellaneous Duties
- Review proposed project documentation and blueprints for accuracy and deficiencies if applicable.
- Conduct periodic punch‑list inspections of new construction in areas of discipline if applicable.
- Perform inspections to ensure proper installation and code compliance if applicable.
- Prepare all documentation required for such inspections and punch‑lists in a timely and effective way if applicable.
- Assist with emergency generator monthly test runs.
- Assist with general maintenance requirements, e.g., bed repair, plumbing, etc.
- Work weekends and on‑call duties on a rotating basis if applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Trade School Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering.
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Required Minimum Experience• Three (3) years of experience as an electrician, with a preference for experience in a healthcare facility.
• One (1) year of experience with fire alarm system maintenance and operations and standby emergency power systems (preferred).
• In lieu of trade school, five (5) years of electrician experience may be considered.
- Ability to use power, hand and diagnostic tools related to the discipline.
- Training and verifiable experience with emergency power transfer switches, line isolation monitors, tie breaker switches and standby emergency generators.
- Computer literacy in basic business software such as Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Organized and experienced with basic and advanced electrical theory, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
- Advanced understanding of NFPA, NEC and other applicable codes related to this discipline.
