Opening Date: 10-31-2025. Closing Date: 11-14-2025. Target Pay: $17.69–$22.11 per hour.

Hours:

Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Job Summary

Acting under general supervision, the Surveillance Officer monitors and tracks participants’ compliance in court-ordered programs, attends related court proceedings, and prepares detailed oral and written surveillance reports.

Responsibilities
  • Perform both scheduled and non-scheduled site visits to participants’ homes, schools, work, or other locations to monitor program compliance.
  • Track and administer breath, urine, and sweat patch drug tests as necessary.
  • Document all interactions with program participants in the case management system.
  • Maintain accurate case files and records.
  • Prepare precisely written reports detailing participant program compliance, tracks, and records community service participation, and attend court proceedings.
  • Participate and provide input during meetings with court staff and other programs.
  • Maintain drug testing equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain and install alcohol monitoring equipment and GPS.
  • Participate in community education and outreach related to court programs.
  • Serve the court in accordance with appropriate statutes, rules, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Competencies & Qualifications

The successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge of the probation process, New Mexico law, civil and criminal procedure; court rules, policies and procedures; legal terminology; substance abuse and drug testing methods; program monitoring protocol and equipment; police reporting procedures; and the ability to recognize and appropriately respond to safety and security issues using conflict resolution or verbal de-escalation techniques. Ability to work effectively with hostile individuals or individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol and to provide equal and impartial services regardless of a protected status.

Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office or court setting. A valid driver's license and travel may be required. The schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. The employee must regularly interact positively with co-workers, clients, the public, judges, and justices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience:

    Two (2) years of experience in social services, probation, corrections officer, or related field. Additional post-secondary education in a related field may substitute for experience; 30 semester hours equals one (1) year of experience.
