Senior Social Services Coordinator New Mexico Department of Health

Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) Program is a CDC funded initiative housed within NMDOH. Its purpose is to reduce fatal and nonfatal drug overdoses by using timely data, prevention strategies, and community partnerships.

Why does the job exist?

OD2A focuses on translating overdose surveillance data into actionable prevention efforts, with an emphasis on equity, harm reduction, and evidence-based interventions. The OD2A Overdose Prevention Coordinator position exists because overdose deaths are preventable - but only when data, strategy, and community action are interconnected. This position ensures that overdose data leads to timely, coordinated, and equitable prevention action. The coordinator will oversee the implementation of grant activities, track outcomes and milestones, and ensure compliance, reporting, and sustainability.

How

does it get done?

This position will support community-based initiatives to reduce the drug overdose death rates in the southeastern New Mexico region. It will provide technical assistance to the Overdose Data to Action in States (OD2A‑S) community partners on drug overdose prevention, medication for opioid use disorder, and linkage to care with regional resources and contribute to the achievement of the New Mexico Department of Health strategic goals by participating in local health councils, alliances, and coalition initiatives for drug overdose prevention.

This position will assist in monitoring contractors to improve overdose trends in New Mexico. Actively participate in regularly scheduled Health Promotion meetings and support activities (programs, clinics) including annual Southeast New Mexico meeting, State Health Improvement Plan, Public Health Accreditation, and additional tasks as assigned.

Who are the customers?

This position will serve the New Mexico southeastern demographic population. It will focus on the people at highest risk of overdose: people who use drugs, people with substance use disorder, people most recently discharged from hospitals, jails or treatment and communities experiencing disproportionate overdose harm. Coordinators' work will also ensure that naloxone is available, and prevention efforts take place.

Ideal Candidate
  • Strong understanding of substance use disorder and overdose prevention strategies
  • Working knowledge of harm reduction principles
  • Experience translating data into actionable prevention strategies
  • Ability to coordinate across public health, behavioral health, and community partners
  • Experience working in partnership with multiple agencies and diverse populations
  • Keeping stakeholders in the southeast region effectively engaged
