We’re looking for a Product Designer to join our design team at Precision Timber, bringing originality, strong creative thinking, and a sense of play to the design of children’s play equipment and playground environments.

The Role:You will help shape the creative direction of our playgrounds by developing imaginative new play features, building repeatable product ranges and designing inspiring outdoor play environments that are practical to manufacture and install.
This is a hands on design role combining concept generation with real world delivery. You will work closely with our Technical Lead and wider design team to take ideas from early sketches and concepts through to 3D models, client visuals and production ready documentation. You will also collaborate with our sales, project and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are buildable, safe, cost effective and aligned with programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop 3D models, visualisations and playground layouts that balance creativity, play value and practical delivery.
- Generate original concepts and new play features that create a distinctive creative identity across projects and within our wider product range.
- Support the development of new product ranges and modular elements for use across multiple projects and for our website offering.
- Interpret site surveys, client briefs and technical information to produce compelling designs suitable for manufacture and installation.
- Produce 2D and 3D CAD outputs using tools such as Sketch Up and AutoCAD, including drawings, specifications, cutting lists and supporting documentation.
- Work collaboratively with our technical designers to ensure structural integrity, buildability and compliance with safety requirements.
- Collaborate with sales, project and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are realistic, cost effective, safe and deliverable within budget and timeline constraints.
- Ensure designs align with relevant standards and guidance, including BS EN 1176.
- Stay up to date with design trends, materials and play equipment innovations, proposing new features, options and continuous improvements.
- Experience in a relevant role such as Product Designer, Industrial Designer, Spatial Designer, Playground Designer or Landscape Designer.
- Strong portfolio showing original concept generation and creative thinking, with evidence of taking ideas from early concepts through to refined designs.
- Proficiency in CAD and design tools, ideally Sketch Up and AutoCAD, with experience in Rhino, Fusion 360, Solid Works, Vectorworks or similar also valued.
- Strong 3D modelling and visual communication skills, able to present ideas clearly to both internal teams and clients.
- Practical design mindset with understanding of materials, manufacturability and build constraints, ideally including timber or fabrication.
- Ability to produce clear drawings and documentation for manufacture and installation, including specifications and cutting lists.
- Collaborative working style, comfortable partnering with technical design, manufacturing, sales and project teams and iterating from feedback.
- Awareness of safety and compliance requirements. Familiarity with BS EN 1176 is beneficial but not essential if you can demonstrate a safety first approach and willingness to learn.
- Organised and reliable, able to manage deadlines and deliver within budget and programme constraints.
- Willingness to travel for occasional UK site visits as needed.
