Consultant in Health Care of Older People (HCOP)

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a new consultant physician in the Health Care of Older People who wish to work differently, who share a passion for change, growth and quality improvement and who are keen to join us in our pursuit of clinical excellence combined with innovative approaches to person‑centred care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible primarily for providing acute inpatient care to frail and older adults throughout the hospital.

We can offer training and development opportunities and will support Consultants to enable them to provide a first class service. If you are passionate about delivering high quality patient care and want to be involved shaping services for the future we would be keen to hear from you.

In particular we are looking to appoint a consultant with an interest in cardiac failure and would hope to develop a role working with this service within the first year of appointment.

Job responsibilities

The Department

The Health Care of Older People (HCOP) team resides over several wards in the hospital footprint at the Trust and comprises:

  • 140 inpatient beds and 15 acute frailty beds

The post-holder will have responsibility for Health Care of Older People patients. Within the Division of we work to our core Vision To deliver high quality, person centred care by the right people in the right place and time, delivered by an empowered, compassionate and skilled workforce within a strong Quality and Financial Governance and Assurance framework. With this in mind the approach we adopt is to run consultant lead ward rounds each day where possible.

HCOP is currently supported by 7 Elderly Medicine consultants working between them to provide support and consultant level decision making into the teams. There will be opportunity to assist in the development of the team and to further develop care pathways alongside in reach and clinic opportunities.
