The PA will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients. They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
The PA will be expected on a typical day to consult with patients who present on the day and via booked appointments, both acute and chronic cases and may consult face to face, by telephone.

Take comprehensive medical histories and perform appropriate physical examinations.
Order, perform, and interpret relevant investigations and diagnostic tests.
Analyse findings to diagnose medical conditions and clearly explain diagnoses, treatment options, and management plans to patients.
Manage both routine and emergency clinical problems in a safe and timely manner.
Discuss laboratory results and their implications with patients, ensuring appropriate follow-up and care planning.
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and legally compliant clinical records for all patient interactions.
Complete all required administrative
Contribute to Chronic Disease Management programmes by reviewing patient cohorts, arranging recalls, and ensuring management aligns with best practice guidelines.
Support the practice in achieving quality standards and performance targets.

General supervision is received from the accountable GP(s). The amount of supervision given will be in accordance with the needs of the Physician Associate.

- Completed a post-graduate physician associate course (either PG Diploma or MSc)
- Maintained professional registration with the Faculty of Physician Associates and/or the General Medical council following implementation of statutory regulation, working within the latest code of professional conduct (CIPD).
- Evidence of UK Physician Associate (PA) National Re-Certification Exam, which needs to be retaken every six years.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
