Job Summary Consultant Psychiatrist
- Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)
We are seeking two enthusiastic and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrists to join our CMHT's (North and South). You will provide high-quality psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults with complex mental health needs, working within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
The role offers opportunities to influence service development, provide clinical leadership, supervise junior doctors, and contribute to teaching and quality improvement. We are committed to flexible working, professional development, and delivering person-centred, recovery-focused care.
Main duties of the job- The post-holder will be expected to support the multi-professional teams to determine need and deliver care across the range of community and care settings served by the mental health teams.
- The post holder is expected to work in both organic and functional aspects of mental health services for older adults.
- To provide medical leadership, consultation, advice, and guidance within the Community Mental Health Teams, ensuring that care and treatment are safe and effective, efficient and within national guidelines.
- To provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and formulation to appropriate patients. On completion of assessment, advise on diagnosis and treatment within the teams and to external service providers.
- To provide medical care to patients with severe mental health problems requiring enhanced care coordination.
- To liaise, advise and consult with hospital doctors and primary care clinicians on diagnosis, treatment and management of patients.
- To conduct assessments and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential- Full registration with the GMC
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT. Would consider a candidate with MRCPsych and AC approval
- MRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification.
- Higher Specialist Training in Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme)
- MD, Management qualification, other professional qualification (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT)
- Previous experience within General Adult Psychiatry
- Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings.
- Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance
- Prior experience working as a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry.
- Evidence of development of special interest
- Evidence of development of special interest
- Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care
- Other special interest/expertise relevant to the post.
- Knowledge of research processes
- Committed to Continuing Professional Development
- Sound knowledge of NHS management structures and systems
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following:
That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
- Overall 7.5, Speaking 7.5, Reading 7.5, and Writing 7.5 - If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence.
- Clinical supervision experience/skills. The aptitude and potential to develop a leadership role within the service with special emphasis on leading on quality and clinical standards and engaging in service improvement
- Ability to undertake training/mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.
