We’re recruiting for a committed and passionate SEND Specialist Tutor to lead and coordinate high-quality SEND provision for apprentices and adult learners aged 16+. The postholder will ensure that learners with additional needs are identified promptly, supported effectively, and empowered to achieve ambitious outcomes.
This role blends specialist SEND leadership with the delivery and oversight of tailored support plans, ensuring teaching and learning are inclusive, adaptive, and aligned with curriculum intent and Ofsted expectations.
Key ResponsibilitiesSEND Leadership and Learner Support
- Lead the identification and assessment of SEND at initial assessment, induction, and throughout the learner journey
- Design, implement, and review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and personalised support strategies to enable sustained learner progress
- Maintain high expectations for learners with SEND, supporting achievement, progression, and successful completion of apprenticeships or adult learning programmes
- Deliver targeted interventions for learners with learning difficulties, disabilities, neurodiversity, mental health needs, or EHCPs
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEND support using learner progress data, achievement outcomes, and feedback to drive continuous improvement
- Deliver high-quality vocational and functional skills provision to apprentices and adult learners, including those with SEND
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated sessions aligned to curriculum intent and learner starting points
- Apply adaptive teaching strategies to remove barriers to learning and support timely achievement
- Track learner progress, set challenging targets, and implement timely interventions where learners are at risk of falling behind
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience supporting SEND learners aged 16+ within apprenticeship or adult education settings
- Strong understanding of Ofsted EIF and inspection framework, particularly in relation to inclusion and learner outcomes
- Ability to assess learner starting points and implement effective, targeted interventions
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage learners, employers, and colleagues effectively
- Experience using learner progress and achievement data to inform support strategies and quality improvement
- Teaching or training qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, DET, PGCE, or equivalent)
- Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2 or above (or equivalent)
- Experience working with EHCPs within FE or apprenticeship environments
- Experience supporting or contributing to Ofsted inspections
- Delivery across multiple locations
- Flexible working arrangements, including lone working
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS check
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
