Level 3/4 SEND Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship – Specialist School (Ages 11–16)

Whether you have recently left education or are looking for a rewarding career change, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship offers the perfect opportunity to learn while working in a highly supportive and meaningful environment. This role allows you to gain hands‑on experience while completing a nationally recognised qualification, delivered through a blend of in‑person and online learning. The cost of the qualification is fully covered by the employer and can be completed within your first year at the school.

About the role:

This Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship is based in a special school supporting children and young people aged 11–16 years. The school caters for pupils with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Looked After Children
  • Autism
  • ADHD

They are seeking a caring, committed, and enthusiastic apprentice to join their team from March 2026. You will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide tailored support that helps pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

Key responsibilities:
  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, adapting support to meet individual needs
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of engaging, inclusive, and differentiated learning activities
  • Supporting pupils with communication, sensory, physical, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Helping pupils to develop life skills, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Preparing and adapting classroom resources, including sensory and visual materials
  • Providing feedback to teachers and contributing to reviews of pupil progress
  • Supporting personal care, mobility, or medical needs where required (training provided)
  • Assisting with enrichment activities, therapy sessions, and extracurricular learning opportunities

The ideal candidate:
  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs
  • Patient, empathetic, and committed to inclusive education
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff

    Willing to learn and adapt to a variety of needs and age groups
  • Able to commit to a minimum of 12 months to complete the apprenticeship
  • Not currently enrolled in another government‑funded programme
  • Available during school holidays to complete 20 hours of online training per half‑term
