The school supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, Autism, ADHD, and additional learning needs.

The PRU has a strong reputation locally for positively re-engaging pupils with education, and we are now seeking full-time Behaviour Support Workers to join their dedicated team. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in sports coaching, residential care, youth work, mentoring, or similar environments.

Your Role

As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils across KS1-KS4
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
  • Support engagement in lessons and alternative learning activities
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to reduce disruption and promote progress
  • Use de-escalation strategies and consistent behaviour approaches
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff and contribute to behaviour plans

You will be supporting pupils with:

  • SEMH needs
  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Additional learning needs
The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience in:

  • Sports coaching or physical activity roles
  • Residential care or supported living
  • Youth work, mentoring, or behaviour support
  • Education, PRUs, alternative provisions, or SEN settings

You will also be:

  • Confident, calm, and resilient
  • Proactive and able to think on your feet
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment

No two days are the same in a PRU, so adaptability and a positive mindset are essential.

Highlights of the Role
  • Full-time, long-term position
  • Opportunities for future permanent roles
  • Excellent experience for those considering careers in teaching, psychology, youth work, or social care
  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities
  • Support from a dedicated consultant
