The school provides a structured and supportive environment for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. Staff work closely as a team to create consistency, stability and clear boundaries, helping students build trust and re-engage with learning. There is a strong focus on positive relationships, calm routines and personalised support to ensure every pupil is given the opportunity to succeed.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them regulate emotions, stay engaged in learning, and access education in a meaningful way. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent support throughout the school day. Experience in sports, youth work or similar backgrounds can be valuable, particularly where it supports behaviour management and engagement, but the focus of this role is school-based learning and emotional support rather than any specialist delivery.

• Support pupils with SEMH needs in lessons and structured activities
• Assist the class teacher in maintaining a calm and supportive classroom environment
• Use de-escalation strategies and consistent routines to support behaviour
• Work with individuals and small groups to support engagement and learning
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and pastoral teams

• Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
• Understanding of SEMH needs or willingness to learn
• Strong communication and behaviour support skills
• Calm, consistent and resilient approach
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils
• A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable learners in education

• Have the right to work in the UK
• Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years
• Have a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education
