Are you dedicated to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential? A supportive secondary school in Rotherham is seeking a caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team.
About the RoleGSL Education South Yorkshire is currently looking for an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming secondary school in Rotherham. You will provide classroom-based support to students with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them remain engaged in learning, develop positive relationships and build confidence. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will play an important role in creating a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
- Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation within the classroom.
- Build trusting and professional relationships with students.
- Work collaboratively with teaching, pastoral and SEN teams to meet individual needs.
- Record and report student progress where appropriate.
- Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs, is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A genuine commitment to supporting young people in education.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and trauma informed practice is advantageous.
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
- Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.
In addition, GSL Education is currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts & Cs apply).
