Be part of something inspiring!

Rotherham Libraries and Neighbourhood Hubs are more than just places to borrow books, they are vibrant community spaces that provide people with places they come together to learn, create, and thrive. From boosting literacy and digital skills to hosting cultural events and supporting wellbeing, they are at the heart of stronger, happier communities. This is your chance to be part of a service that changes lives every day.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and professional individual with a genuine passion for reading, learning, and customer service to join our team in the Schools Library Service to deliver outreach work with schools and communities across Rotherham.

About the Role

We are currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual with a passion for planning and delivering projects, and initiatives, for Children and Young People.

The post holder will work flexibly within the Communities of Interest team and will support the development and delivery of the Schools Library Service (SLS) and conduct outreach work with local organisations, schools and businesses to promote the library service within the community and increase participation in libraries for children and young people.

Working in partnership with the Association of Senior Children's and Education

Librarians (ASCEL), Libraries Connected, The Reader, the Reading Agency and Book Trust the post holder will be responsible for delivering the Book start programme, annual Summer Reading Challenge programme and work in partnership with schools to deliver a range of projects.

Building and maintaining effective partnerships within and outside the service, dealing with complex enquiries, developing staff potential and implementing new ways of working to ensure an effective service and best value are essential to the role.

You will require an understanding of the Universal Library Offers set out by Libraries Connected, as these offers form a major part of service delivery within Libraries. In line with the  library strategy, the post holder will participate in promotional and development activities and events for customers across the service and bring about improvements to customer service delivery.

You will need to be confident, well-organised, and proactive, with excellent communication and ICT skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential, as is a flexible approach to service delivery.

You will also take part in our service "Champion" work and be supported to develop your knowledge and activities for a particular area of delivery e.g. children and families, digital engagement, or community outreach.

In particular we are looking for someone to join the team that has the following:

  • Is passionate about reading, learning, and engaging with their local community.
  • Motivated to provide excellent customer service, with strong communication skills and the ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.
  • Has organisational skills and can prioritise tasks while remaining customer focused.
  • Has good digital skills and confident in the use of IT to support customers.
  • Can offer flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and across different sites as required.
