About the role

As a Project Supervisor, you’ll be right at the centre of this national mission.
You’ll support the delivery of some of our most high‑profile infrastructure programmes in the East Midlands, including:
Brinsworth to High Marnham Uprating Project
A complex, multi‑site programme featuring three new substation builds alongside overhead line reconductoring. Experience with in substation environments is desirable.
SCRE & WRRE Programmes
Nationally significant, fast‑paced reconductoring projects spanning over 100km across Nottinghamshire. These site‑led projects are upgrading existing overhead lines to unlock vital network capacity. Overhead line (OHL) experience is desirable.
The main population centres supporting these projects include Rotherham, Chesterfield and Nottingham, so applicants should be comfortable commuting across these locations.
As a Project Supervisor, you’ll act as the Site Supervisor / Engineer’s Representative on behalf of the client, ensuring construction activities are planned, coordinated and delivered efficiently. You’ll lead on‑site assurance, working in line with National Grid policies, procedures and contractual requirements—placing safety, quality and performance at the heart of everything you do.
Within this role you will be required to travel to site 4 days per week, across the project regions within the midlands.
About You- Extensive experience of construction standards especially with regards to Overhead Lines, Substations and Cabling
- Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply
- An understanding of various Contract forms such as NEC 3 / 4
- Good understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies
- Good knowledge of CDM Regulations
- Previous experience of project site management capability of working to deadlines and in a contracting environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Formal training in the following areas:
Construction H&S, CDM, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Quality Management, Environmental, Contract Terms and Conditions - Desirable to be familiar with National Grid's Safety Rules and hold 'Person' Authorisation but trained to Competent Person standard, with supplementary authorisations as applicable
- Experience of working at 275kV and 400kV is an advantage
- NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS or willing to work towards
- Ability to travel
- Full UK driving license
- Ensuring safety is always your number one priority. You will help foster an environment where everyone, regardless of seniority, feels able to share their concerns.
- Ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is pro‑active in discharging their duties under the CDM regulations, not least in managing all safety aspects of the construction‑based activities.
- Ensure the facilitation of regular site safety walks, holding coordination meetings with all contractors on site.
- Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
- Enacting the role of Employers 'Supervisor' under NEC contracts.
- Establish and maintain risk‑based sensible monitoring assurance programs for SHESQ activities.
- Completing safety inspections to ensure contractors are compliant with RAMS and National Grid safety rules.
- Sharing all safety information clearly, consistently and effectively across your site.
- Ensuring all incidents, near misses and accidents are reported correctly and appropriate investigations carried out.
- Supporting commercial assessments i.e. compensation events and programme reviews.
- Building strong working relationships with stakeholders, including contractors, sub‑contractors, National Grid project teams and local site teams.
- Acting as the main intermediary between contractors and National Grid, particularly the Project Manager or authorised safety personnel.
