Senior Finance Assistant

A varied finance role with exposure across the wider finance function.

We are working with a business looking to appoint a Senior Finance Assistant to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys a varied, hands‑on role and is confident working across all aspects of transactional finance, alongside more technical month‑end responsibilities.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the day‑to‑day running of the finance function, with responsibility for core accounting processes, including accruals and prepayments, as well as the flexibility to support other areas of finance, including elements of payroll when required.

Over time, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on increased responsibility, working closely with the Financial Controller and gradually taking ownership of additional tasks and processes. This is a broad position suited to someone who enjoys variety and is happy to get involved wherever support is needed across the finance team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing day‑to‑day transactional finance activities across purchase ledger, sales ledger and general ledger.

• Processing invoices, payments, receipts and expenses, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

• Preparing and posting journals as part of the month‑end process.

• Taking responsibility for accruals and prepayments, ensuring costs are accurately recorded in the correct accounting periods.

• Completing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.

• Supporting month‑end reporting and the preparation of management accounts.

• Assisting with payroll‑related activities and providing cover when required.

• Responding to finance queries and working collaboratively with colleagues across the business.

• Supporting wider finance activities and contributing to the smooth running of the department.

We are looking for someone with a solid grounding in transactional finance who can also demonstrate experience or a good understanding of month‑end accounting processes.

You’ll be organised, detail‑oriented and comfortable balancing routine financial tasks with more technical responsibilities. Just as importantly, you’ll have a flexible approach and be willing to support different areas of the finance function as business needs evolve.

Previous experience in a similar finance or accounts role is essential, along with:

• Strong transactional finance experience.

• Knowledge of accruals, prepayments, journals and reconciliations.

• An understanding of month‑end processes and financial controls.

• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.

• The flexibility to assist with payroll and other finance activities when required.
