We are seeking candidates for the following post to join our teams working mainly at our Dinnington surgery.
Medical Receptionist
Pay: £12.21 per hour
The successful applicant will need to work:
- Monday, Wednesday & Thursday on a 2 week rota
- week 1: 8am- 1.15pm and Week 2: 1.15pm 6.30pm.
- also will be required to work over-time for holiday and sickness cover.
Main Duties:
- To answer patient queries via phone or in person when appropriate.
- To contact patients with follow-up information as directed by clinicians.
- To arrange routine follow-ups investigations or reviews on behalf of clinicians.
To action waiting lists and contact patients
To contact patients to arrange necessary tests i.e BP appointments, bloods
To carry out general reception duties
To act as a point of contact between patients and clinical staff.
To signpost patients to services under guidance from clinical staff.
Skills:
Customer Service Keyboard and Computer skills are essential. Previous experience as a Doctors receptionist is desirable but not essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
Medical Receptionist
1. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBLITIES:
- 1.1. Appointments are booked and enquiries from patients are efficiently and courteously handled.
- 1.2. Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
- 2. MAIN TASKS:
- Reception
- 3.1 Answering general enquiries directly with the patient in the surgery or by telephone, explaining surgery procedures, making new and follow-up appointments and receiving requests for repeat prescriptions.
- 3.2 Care Navigation:
Receiving, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous and efficient and effective manner. - 3.3 Receiving and recording requests for home visits.
- 3.4 Receiving messages for Doctors, Nurses, Health Visitors and other staff members.
- 3.5 Process repeat prescription requests on the computer in accordance with practice guidelines. Issuing completed repeat prescriptions to patients and checking name and address.
- 3.6 Receiving and checking any new patient registration forms and change of address information. Ensuring the information is passed to data input.
- 3.7 Being able to cover all reception positions as necessary.
- Administration
- 3.8 To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.
- 3.9 To work in accordance with written protocols.
- 3.10 The filing, record keeping and distribution of documents is undertaken efficiently and promptly.
- 3.12 Filing and extracting records and any documents relating to these including:
- a) Filing records of new patients received from Registrations.
- b) Extracting records and withdrawals for list to send to Registrations.
- 3.13 Ensuring that an adequate supply of stationery is available in the consulting rooms and in the reception area. Ensuring that the consulting room computers are switched on at the beginning of the day.
- General
- 3.14 Ventilating and tidying the waiting room after surgery.
- 3.15 Ensuring that the reception area is left tidy and ready for use by incoming colleagues, and that they are provided with information about any unresolved or urgent matters.
- 3.16 To undertake any duties as may be determined from time to time, commensurate with the range of activities described above. (Proposed changes of duties will be discussed with the post holder before implementation).
- Training
- 3.17 To be prepared to train for any other activities which will increase skill mix and job capabilities within the surgery.
