Role OverviewThe First Line Manager oversees the performance of Supervisors and their teams to ensure operational objectives are met. Acting as the key link between the Operations Manager and warehouse Supervisors, this role translates strategic goals into actionable plans, maintains operational efficiency, and drives continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Leadership
:
Manage daily warehouse operations, including order picking, packing, inventory control, and dispatch. Oversee and support Supervisors in organising workloads and managing teams to meet daily targets. Monitor workflow, prioritise tasks, and ensure smooth inter‑departmental collaboration. - Performance Management
:
Track and report on operational KPIs such as pick accuracy, productivity, and on‑time dispatch rates. Review team performance with Supervisors, identify improvement areas, and address underperformance proactively. Implement performance improvement initiatives in line with company objectives. - Continuous Improvement
:
Collaborate with Supervisors and Operations Managers to identify opportunities for process optimisation and cost reduction. Drive implementation of lean methodologies to eliminate waste and enhance productivity. Ensure SOPs are followed and updated as needed. - Health & Safety Compliance
:
Enforce adherence to health and safety regulations, support Supervisors in risk assessments and audits, and ensure employees operate in compliance with safe systems of work (SSOWs) and company policies. Investigate and report safety incidents, implement corrective actions. - Team Development & Engagement
:
Provide coaching and mentorship to Supervisors, fostering leadership and autonomy. Identify and develop high‑potential employees, supporting succession planning. Encourage an inclusive and collaborative culture with open communication. - Resource & Workflow Management
:
Monitor resource allocation and staffing levels, address labour shortages in partnership with recruitment. Ensure effective utilisation of warehouse space, equipment, and automation technology, and collaborate with maintenance and engineering to resolve technical issues.
- Education
:
High school diploma or equivalent. Advanced certifications in logistics, supply chain management, or operations are advantageous. - Experience
:
Extensive experience in a warehouse or distribution environment, with at least two years in a management or team leadership role. Familiarity with automotive parts distribution or similar high‑volume industries is preferred. - Skills
:
Strong leadership and motivation skills; proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office. Analytical ability to interpret operational data and develop improvement strategies. Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement. In‑depth knowledge of health and safety standards and operational best practices.
