An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our busy Day Surgery Unit on a fixed-term contract for six months. As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients undergoing elective, trauma, and selected emergency surgical procedures. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and effective care throughout their day surgery journey while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.

Job Overview
As a Day Surgery Nurse, you will be responsible for preparing patients for theatre in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. You will provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients undergoing day surgery, ensuring they are safely prepared for their procedure and supporting those who are either discharged home the same day or transferred to an inpatient ward for an overnight stay.
The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care to promote safe, effective, and timely discharge. You will play a key role in facilitating nurse-led discharges where appropriate, ensuring patients receive the information, support, and care required for a safe return home.

Person Specification Qualifications- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Evidence of recent continuous professional development
- Educated to Degree level or working towards
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Ability to actively listen to and hear peoples issues and concerns. Ability to communicate difficult, complex and contentious information in a way that is heard and understood.
- Demonstrates sound clinical knowledge and up to date nursing practice with evidence of critical thinking and problem solving
- Demonstrates an empathetic, caring and sensitive approach to patients, relatives and carers.
- Demonstrates awareness of current professional nursing issues
- Able to work under own initiative and without direct supervision within responsibilities of role.
