QHSE Manager - Rotherham - £45,000 - £55,000

Chase & Holland are proud to be working with a successful, growing and family-owned manufacturing business based in the Rotherham area who are currently seeking an experienced QHSE Manager to join their expanding operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced QHSE, HSE or Quality professional to take genuine ownership of the function within an SME manufacturing environment.

The business currently employs around 80 people across two manufacturing units and operates a 24/7 production environment, with further growth and expansion planned. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the company's Health & Safety culture, strengthening Quality processes and building the QHSE function as the business continues to grow.

Health & Safety will be the primary focus, with Quality and Environmental responsibilities alongside this. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is comfortable on the factory floor, but also confident working with senior management and driving longer-term improvements.

QHSE Manager Responsibilities:
  • Taking ownership of the company's QHSE function and acting as the principal adviser on Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental matters
  • Maintaining a visible presence across the manufacturing operation and promoting a proactive Health & Safety culture
  • Developing and reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Managing machinery safety requirements including PUWER, guarding and isolation
  • Maintaining arrangements for COSHH, manual handling, noise and other occupational health risks
  • Leading accident, incident and near-miss investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • Managing incident reporting, including RIDDOR where applicable
  • Developing QHSE policies, procedures, training records and compliance documentation
  • Taking ownership of the Quality Management System and working closely with Production to maintain effective process controls
  • Managing customer complaints, non-conformances and corrective actions
  • Developing QHSE KPIs and reporting performance to management
  • Leading internal audits and supporting customer, supplier and external certification audits
  • Developing an integrated management system appropriate for an SME manufacturing environment
  • Leading the business towards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification
  • Supporting environmental improvement initiatives
  • Using structured problem-solving techniques including 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, CAPA and 8D
  • Working closely with Production to identify and implement practical improvements
  • Constructively challenging unsafe practices and ensuring agreed actions are followed through
Required

Skills & Experience:
  • Significant practical experience within a QHSE, HSE, Health & Safety or Quality role within manufacturing, engineering or a similar industrial environment
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Practical experience of machinery safety, PUWER and risk assessment
  • Experience investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Good understanding of Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001
  • Experience with internal auditing and management-system documentation
  • Practical root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action experience
  • Previous experience within an SME manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a QHSE function
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Practical and hands‑on approach with a willingness to spend time on the factory floor
  • Confident challenging unsafe practices professionally and constructively

    Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Lean/Continuous Improvement, supplier quality or CNC/automated manufacturing would be advantageous. Further qualifications such as NEBOSH Diploma, ISO Auditor training or an environmental qualification would also be beneficial.
