At OMA, the Modelshop is a vital part of the Office, a place where physical models are more than representations; they are essential tools that support and inform the design process. You’ll join a collaborative and experienced team, working with a wide range of materials and tools to contribute to some of the most challenging and high-profile architectural projects in the world.
Aboutthe Role
OMA Rotterdam is seeking a Modelshop Assistant to join our in-house Modelshop team. We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual with strong craftsmanship and a solid understanding of model-making techniques, materials, and machinery.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Modelshop Assistant, you will play a vital role in the production of architectural models and mock-ups. This is a physically active role involving the handling and construction of models in various scales and materials. You will collaborate closely with architects and support teams throughout the design process. Responsibilities also include the regular cleaning and maintenance of the workshop to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient working environment.
Qualifications- Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience in crafting architectural models and mock-ups.
- Materials & Machinery: Proficient with a range of materials such as wood, metal, resin, and plastics. Skilled in operating workshop machinery, including power tools and equipment like table saws.
- Digital Fabrication: Strong working knowledge of digital tools including laser cutters and 3D printers.
- Software: Familiar with AutoCAD, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Language: Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Mindset: Independent, flexible, and proactive with a team-player attitude.
- Bonus: Knowledge of OMA’s work is an asset, but not a requirement.
- A 40-hour-per-week employment contract.
