In this combined Environmental & Transport Safety Engineer role, you are responsible for environmental compliance and dangerous goods transport safety within the BoMa organisation, with a primary focus on the Botlek site. You act as the key interface between operations, authorities and external experts on environmental permitting and DGSA responsibilities. Activities related to the Maasvlakte (RMO) site are transitional and will be phased out.
The role is part of a team of five professionals with a diverse mix of nationalities and genders. The team is collaborative, performance oriented and committed to maintaining high standards.

A Day in the Life Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure site operations remain compliant with environmental permits and applicable legislation.
  • Monitor environmental performance, identify trends and advise management on improvement opportunities and risk mitigation.
  • Support IED 2.0 readiness activities, including gap assessments, BAT/BREF updates, emission limit revisions and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Environmental Management System (EMS), including installation-specific data, hazardous substances evaluations and REACH related assessments.
  • Provide technical input (e.g., emissions data, feasibility considerations, operational constraints) for long term Transformation Plans for the period 2030–2050.
  • Monitor regulatory developments related to IED 2.0 national transposition and BREF revisions.
Transport Safety / DGSA
  • Act as certified Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) for relevant modalities (ADR/RID/ADN).
  • Provide expert advice on packaging, consignment, loading and unloading of dangerous goods.
  • Maintain and further develop the transport safety management system, including procedures, work processes and controls.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits, inspections and incident analyses related to environmental and transport safety, and follow up on resulting actions.
  • Provide training, coaching and communication on regulatory requirements to strengthen competence and awareness across the organization.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with competent authorities, industry bodies, consultants and internal stakeholders (Operations, Projects, HSE, Supply Chain).
  • Act as limited back up for Quality and Management System activities when necessary, in coordination with the Quality & Environment Lead.
  • This role requires availability for call out with appropriate compensation.
You Bring This Value
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, chemical engineering, logistics, safety management or a related technical field;
  • Several years of experience in the petrochemical or process industry in environmental, HSE or transport safety roles;
  • Certified DGSA (minimum ADR; RID/ADN/IMDG preferred);
  • Demonstrated experience with environmental permitting, compliance and reporting in the Dutch industrial context (e.g. Omgevingsvergunning, Seveso, BEVB);
  • Strong understanding of environmental and HSE management systems; ISO 14001 required. Familiarity with ISO 9001 and FSSC/ISO
    22000 is an advantage;
  • Experience in interactions with authorities, inspectors and external consultants;
  • Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English.
