Position: Staff Product Designer

We’re building a world-class team to redefine knowledge work with AI

Zeno is a legal AI startup building a platform that helps lawyers research, review, and draft documents with real legal reasoning — not just text prediction
. We’re developing technology that can:

  • Search and retrieve statutes, case law, and commentary with high precision.

  • Reason step-by-step
, applying legal tests and weighing precedents.

  • Explain every answer transparently
, so lawyers can trace conclusions back to the exact sources.

Where most tools automate surface-level tasks, we’re focused on replicating the way lawyers actually think through legal problems, making depth and trust the foundation of everything we build.

You’re joining an early-stage startup that is already working with leading firms. Backed with €3M in seed funding
, we’re now scaling a team of engineers and thinkers who want to solve real problems, drive innovation, and create lasting change in the legal sector.

The role

Zeno is building an intelligence-native product for legal work. Not “chat for lawyers” — a system professionals can rely on when the stakes are real.

As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll shape how a complex product comes together into a clear, reliable experience for legal professionals. You’ll work at the system level: defining how research, document work, drafting, and revision connect, how users stay oriented, and how trust is built through design choices that hold up under pressure.

A big part of the role is designing the intelligence layer of the product: the shared interaction model that makes AI work consistently across multiple workflows and surfaces. You’ll establish coherent mental models that users actually adopt — especially as the product scales and complexity increases.

You’ll partner closely with product, engineering, and leadership to influence direction, while staying deeply hands-on in interaction and visual craft. This is a high-ownership role for a designer who likes hard, ambiguous problems and wants real responsibility for how the product evolves as it scales.

What you’ll be working on

  • Lead design across the core product

Drive coherence across workflows so Zeno feels like one system, not a bundle of features.

  • Design the intelligence system

Define how intelligence behaves across the product — consistent patterns for how Zeno reads, reasons, drafts, revises, and explains itself, so users build a clear mental model of what’s happening and what to do next.

  • Influence product direction through design

Help frame the hardest problems, challenge assumptions early, and make calls on when to simplify vs. when to introduce more capability.

  • Set and raise the quality bar

Establish standards for interaction, hierarchy, accessibility, and polish, and ensure the bar holds as speed and scope increase.

  • Ship tightly with engineering

Work side-by-side with engineers to make thoughtful tradeoffs, move fast, and keep the experience strong in real usage.

  • Design for work that unfolds over time

Create flows for iterative, revision-heavy work — new documents, new facts, changing conclusions, and ongoing accountability.

What we’re looking for

  • 8+ years of product design experience (or equivalent) with a portfolio showing shipped, complex work — ideally in B2B or professional software.

  • Strong interaction design instincts and high visual craft; you sweat details without losing the system.

  • You’ve designed system-level experiences that span multiple workflows and surfaces, not just isolated features.

  • You’re comfortable in high-stakes domains where clarity, reliability, and traceability matter more than novelty.

  • You think in prototypes — it’s how you explore interactions, validate complexity, and decide what the product should feel like before it’s built.

  • You can move fluidly between hands-on execution and higher-level product thinking.

  • You communicate clearly, take feedback well, and can build trust across product, engineering, and leadership.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing AI-assisted workflows where trust, control, and “why” matter.

  • High fluency with AI tools to explore, prototype, or build interaction concepts quickly.

  • Experience in legal, finance, healthcare, or other…
