SummaryResponsible for PLC and HMI programming for manufacturing equipment designed and constructed internally by Baxter Engineering, as well as controls-related support for various equipment in Baxter’s global manufacturing network. Displays standard engineering principles to resolve difficult problems, from conception to final design with team input. Plans, schedules, and leads project assignments in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of various engineering techniques, procedures and criteria with minimal guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project, including constructing detailed schedules and interfacing with development and support groups.
- Develops large-scale PLC programs, HMI systems, vision systems, and servo systems independently with minimal supervision.
- Interfaces with design, engineering, technicians, plant personnel, and external vendors to ensure successful design, fabrication, and assembly of manufacturing equipment.
- Contributes to cost estimating of the control engineering portion of major capital budget items, tracks project budgets, and monitors project spending.
- Prioritizes multiple tasks across multiple projects.
- Continuously improves department processes and advances standardization related to controls technology and programming.
- Investigates and analyzes field issues and develops/evaluates/implements design improvements.
- May indirectly supervise or coordinate engineers and/or technicians on assigned work.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with 3+ years relevant work experience.
- Experience directly working in or actively supporting a dynamic manufacturing operation is preferred.
- Knowledge of the basic principles in various engineering disciplines.
- Ability to effectively run projects and direct the activities of a technician.
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment electrical and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with electrical control system design and relevant CAD software, preferably Solidworks Electrical.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation Software (RSLogix
5000/Studio 5000), HMI Systems (Factory Talk View Studio ME/SE), robotic programming (Fanuc, Omron, Staubli), vision systems (Cognex), and healthcare-specific applications is a plus. - Ability to communicate and persuade customers, partners, and management on recommended actions with minimal assistance, using both written and verbal methods.
- Works effectively in cross-functional teams with guidance.
- Provides solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
Base salary range: $88,000 – $121,000 annually, plus an annual incentive bonus, commission target, and equity target. Actual salary may vary based on skills, experience, business line, and location.
