SummaryThis position will be responsible for providing EHS support and will be a trusted partner to our employees and managers to drive safety and sustainability progress within a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The role works with the EHS Manager to plan and execute Baxter’s environmental, health and safety programs, sustain and improve performance, and ensure a positive, safe, healthful, and incident‑free work environment.
The candidate must be highly motivated, communicate, influence, and collaborate effectively at all levels, be “hands‑on,” learn quickly, and make a positive impact.
- Use influence to advance EHS&S compliance/programs with proactive, transparent, and effective messaging in line with Baxter Corporate policies, State and Federal regulations.
- Assist with the administration and implementation of EHS policies and programs.
- Execute the elements of the EHS&S Management System (including ISO 14001) as necessary.
- Proactively identify potential EHS hazards through risk assessments, Gemba walks, inspections, etc., and drive timely corrective actions.
- Develop relationships with other functions (e.g., Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities) to ensure EHS&S aspects are considered at the beginning of new or changing operations and drive improvement of existing EHS&S methods and techniques.
- Provide specialized training to Baxter employees (e.g., LOTO, Confined Space).
- Assist in emergency response and preparedness activities.
- Assist with annual department goals according to key metrics (TRIR, energy consumption) measured throughout the organization.
- Work independently to perform EHS inspections and audits of facilities, processes, and equipment and ensure closure of identified corrective and preventive actions.
- Partner with management on investigation of incidents, including “near‑misses,” to identify root causes and corrective/preventive actions.
- Perform industrial hygiene activities such as air and noise monitoring.
- Evaluate hazardous conditions and practices, including managing JHA’s to develop and implement hazard control practices and programs.
- Implement solutions that support management’s efforts to improve and maintain compliance and best practices, including leading the lockout/tagout and other essential EHS programs.
- Research industry “best‑practices” to ensure world‑class leadership in EHS&S.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Candidate must not be allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin.
- B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in manufacturing environments in areas such as Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality or Operational Excellence.
- Experience with EHS&S programs (Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, PPE, Powered Industrial trucks, Industrial Hygiene, Hazardous Waste, etc.).
- Deep knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and DOT.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing plant setting.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Corporate rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proven track record of interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
- Ability to work both independently and on a team.
- Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
- Self‑motivated, strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Good communication, written and oral skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle a broad range of tasks simultaneously and prioritize and work cross‑functionally in a highly‑matrixed environment.
- Working knowledge of medical products industry preferred.
- Experience with ISO
14001 preferred. - Data Management responsibilities include EHS CAPA tracking, waste documentation, regulatory submittals, and others as assigned.
